In an exclusive new report, influential Chinese site MyDrivers has revealed that Apple is making a dramatic design upgrade to the 2022 iPhone SE. In fact, the upgrade is so substantial that iPhone 13 upgraders might want to save their money and wait.

A Bezel-less Budget iPhone

MyDrivers explains that the new third-generation iPhone SE launching in early 2022 will no longer be based on the iPhone 8, but rather the iPhone XR. Intriguingly, the site also states that it will have Touch ID instead of Face ID — biometric technology which is arguably more practical for a world still wearing masks. This may also mean a smaller/no notch.

Perhaps the best news, however, is MyDrivers claims that Apple will equip the iPhone SE3 with 5G and the same A15 chipset used by the iPhone 13 range. If correct, this would presumably be non-mmWave 5G and the slightly lower performance version of the A15 used with non-Pro models. Regardless, it should mean the phone is supported for just as long as its premium stablemates.

The only bad news is MyDrivers reports that storage will begin at 64GB, which is understandable, and it will be priced from 3299 yuan ($516). This is significantly more than the 2899 yuan ($454) the gen-two iPhone SE currently sells for in China, though the upgrades would clearly warrant a price increase.

Too Good To Be True?

As a source, MyDrivers has a relatively solid track record. It correctly leaked the storage upgrade in the iPhone 7, chipset changes in the third-gen iPad Pro and full spec breakdown of the fourth-gen iPad Air though it has previously got some launch dates wrong.

The bigger conundrum, however, is the MyDrivers leak goes against previous information from respected insiders Ross Young and Ming-Chi Kuo who both said a bezel-less iPhone SE redesign was Source: https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2021/10/23/apple-iphone-2022-new-iphone-se3-design-upgrade-iphone-13-pro-max/
